Actual: The Turning Point Project was an anti-capitalist advertising project that took out full-page ads in the New York Times and other newspapers in 1999 denouncing technology and claiming to be a coalition of nearly 100 environmental groups. In fact, it was backed almost exclusively by Douglas Tompkins through his Foundation for Deep Ecology. For example, of the project's $353,228 revenue in 2000, only two donations, one of $5,000, another of $10,000, came from others. The Turning Point Project's president is Jerry Mander, program director of the Foundation for Deep Ecology. The project's other two board members are also board members of the Center for Food Safety and the International Center for Technology Assessment. Board member Andrew Kimbrell also sits on the board of Mander's International Forum on Globalization. The Turning Point Project last filed an IRS annual report Form 990 in 2004.
