Description: Direct action group aimed at "calling out corporate power" and to "target the fossil fuel business." Internet-savvy protest organizer. Stunts and confrontation. Linked to Ralph Nader networks (Green Party, PIRGs), and Greenpeace.

 

Pressurepoint is a shell non-profit Washington corporation with no reported income. It is not a 501(c)(3) exempt organization and files no IRS Form 990. UBI Number 602 123 869, incorporated 5/24/2001, license expires 5/31/2002. It has not existed long enough to file an annual report with the Washington Secretary of State. Fiscal sponsor: Downwinders At Risk, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation acting as a pass-through for donations to Pressurepoint.

 

No funders can be identified.

 

Pressurepoint was created by Chris Doran, Stop Exxon Mobil National Campaign Coordinator, now relocated to Greenpeace in Washington, D.C.

  • 1996-1999: Doran was an anti-mining campaigner for the Wilderness Society of Australia (not affiliated with the Wilderness Society in the U.S.) in Sydney.

  • November/December 1999: arrested and held 4 days in jail for participating in Seattle WTO riots. Read his message to fellow activists.

  • Earth Day 2000 coordinator with Earth Day Network of Seattle.

  • Attended the Global Greens Gathering in Canberra, Australia in April 2001 where he helped win approval of a direct action focus on Exxon Mobil.

  • May 2001: Hung banner with David Cobb of Texas Green Party at Exxon Mobil annual shareholders meeting in Dallas, chanted "Exxon Mobil stop killing for oil." Both men were escorted out and released.

  • Incorporated Pressurepoint May 24, 2001. Doran headed a 7-person board of directors with authority over Pressurepoint’s programs.

  • Doran was coordinating council member Green Party of Seattle.

  • Doran’s mentor in forming Pressurepoint was Patrick Mazza, researcher and writer with Olympia, Washington-based Climate Solutions, a project of Earth Island Institute (San Francisco). Mazza is a member of Pressurepoint's Board of Advisers.

Pressurepoint's "climate justice campaigner" is Katherine Lo, aka "Kat Lo." Unconfirmed reports indicate that Lo is a student from Hong Kong now studying at Yale University in Connecticut and not located in the Seattle area.
