Americans for the Environment was initially established in 1970 under
the name of American Environment, Inc. after the first Earth Day activities. The group was
reorganized in 1982, retaining its original tax-exempt status as a
501(c)(3) entity. A copy of AFE's IRS tax-exemption letter can be obtained by contacting
AFE's national office. AFE's financial audits and copies of IRS 990 reports are available
on request.
